New Trends in Qualitative Research (NTQR) was founded in 2020 by the publisher Ludomedia Unipessoal, Lda. as a Book Series, publishing thematic volumes associated with international qualitative research events (volumes 1 to 14). At the end of 2023, NTQR transitioned into a journal while maintaining its primary objectives: the publication of original scientific texts in qualitative research, including state-of-the-art reviews, new research perspectives, solutions and/or applications for real-world problems, empirical studies and/or evaluation works, among others.

NTQR publishes articles in three languages – English, Portuguese, and Spanish – following a continuous publication model with free and open access.

Volume 22, Issue 3 of New Trends in Qualitative Research brings together a diverse collection of contributions reflecting the theoretical, epistemological, and methodological breadth of contemporary qualitative inquiry. Organised according to NTQR's different article types, the papers in this issue encompass conceptual, essayistic, innovative, comparative, and empirical perspectives, while sharing a common commitment to critical reflection on how qualitative knowledge is produced, interpreted, and communicated.

Within the theoretical–conceptual domain, this issue opens a space for reflection on embodiment in qualitative research, challenging notions of disembodied knowledge and drawing attention to the body as a constitutive dimension of research praxis.

The scientific essays explore two important methodological territories. One contribution examines how Symbolic Interactionism informs analysis within Grounded Theory, while another critically considers the Gioia Data Structure as a methodological artefact in nursing research.

Methodological innovation is represented by a reflection on applied doctoral research and the role of the practitioner researcher in bridging academic inquiry and professional and industry contexts. Complementing this contribution, the comparative study of methods or techniques examines the application of methods triangulation to research quality assurance in higher education.

The largest group of contributions comprises empirical studies with methodological reflection, illustrating the diversity of contexts in which qualitative inquiry can be conducted and methodologically examined. These articles address, among other topics, the use of online focus groups to explore sexuality in the context of breast cancer; the mobilisation of Deleuzian-Guattarian theory in research on language learning; Artificial Intelligence applied to HIV/STI research in Latin America; the Paulo Freire Tent as a participatory qualitative research device; the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, and Industry 5.0; flexible and reflexive qualitative designs for exploring turning points; the visualisation of teacher anxiety and identity in the South Korean context; embodied methods for surfacing knowledge about teaching and learning; and representations of nursing in Indonesian horror films.

Taken together, the articles in this issue demonstrate how qualitative research continues to expand its conceptual frameworks and methodological resources while engaging with different disciplines, technologies, sociocultural contexts, and forms of participation. Volume 22, Issue 3 thus reaffirms the commitment of New Trends in Qualitative Research to critical methodological reflection, innovation, and the plurality of perspectives that characterise contemporary qualitative inquiry.
