Abstract

Studying a family makes it possible to identify its needs and problems and to draw up a personalised care plan aimed at meeting those needs. This process facilitates the family's self-knowledge, helping them to recognise their strengths and find solutions to their problems. In family health nursing, involving the family in the care process is crucial to achieving health gains. To carry out a family assessment and intervention based on the Dynamic Model of Family Assessment and Intervention and to collaborate with the family in identifying their strengths and resources to overcome difficulties inherent in family development. Case study. Data collection took place during the months of June and July 2024, through family interviews and a home visit. The family assessment was carried out and validated in co-operation with the family as the unit of care. Their main needs were identified, and a care plan was drawn up identifying the following nursing diagnoses: marital satisfaction not maintained, parental role not adequate and dysfunctional family process. The planning and implementation of the nursing interventions were based on the family's strengths and on empowering its members to identify the resources available to them. After the implementation of the nursing interventions, there were gains in the family's health. This intervention helped raise awareness of the importance of the MDAIF as an essential tool for family health nursing practice. By applying the model, it was possible to understand the needs, communication patterns, strengths and resources of the family under study. After its implementation, it was possible to observe an improvement in family dynamics and functionality.
