New Trends in Qualitative Research (NTQR) is an international scientific journal with open access and continuous publication, dedicated to critical reflection, development, and innovation in qualitative research methodologies. The journal's mission is to promote scientific rigour, methodological creativity, and epistemological debate in the process of designing, producing, analysing, and interpreting qualitative data in all areas of knowledge.
NTQR publishes methodological articles and empirical studies with substantive methodological reflection, provided that the article's central contribution focuses on the understanding, evaluation, improvement, or transformation of qualitative research practices. Empirical studies are only considered when they generate clear, critical and transferable methodological learning, not limited to the presentation of substantive results.
The editorial focus of NTQR includes, among others:
NTQR asserts itself as an international space for methodological dialogue aimed at researchers, teachers, and students interested in theoretical advancement and practical qualification in qualitative research.
NTQR has no print edition. All volumes are available online and can be accessed on the homepage: https://publi.ludomedia.org
Since its establishment, New Trends in Qualitative Research (NTQR) has contributed to the dissemination of qualitative research across different scientific disciplines. Throughout its transition from a book series to a scholarly journal, the publication has welcomed a diverse range of empirical, theoretical and review studies, reflecting the breadth of qualitative research applications in different contexts.
As part of the process of consolidating and refining its scientific identity, NTQR has strengthened its editorial criteria, placing greater emphasis on critical reflection, development and innovation in qualitative research methodologies.
Under its current editorial policy, the journal prioritises articles whose main scholarly contribution addresses epistemological, methodological or analytical and technical aspects of qualitative research. Empirical studies are considered when they provide substantive, critical and transferable methodological reflection that goes beyond merely describing research procedures or presenting findings relating to the phenomenon under investigation.
Similarly, literature review articles must contribute directly to methodological knowledge, particularly through the critical analysis, evaluation, comparison or refinement of processes, strategies and techniques used in reviewing and synthesising qualitative research.
Articles submitted up to and including 31 December 2025 were evaluated in accordance with the editorial scope and selection criteria in force at that time. These articles, including those published after the revision of the editorial policy, remain available in the journal's scholarly archive, thereby preserving the integrity of the scientific record.
From 1 January 2026 onwards, all new submissions have been subject to the revised editorial criteria, which establish a substantive methodological contribution as a fundamental requirement for publication in NTQR.
This evolution reflects NTQR's commitment to scientific rigour, editorial transparency and the development of an international scholarly forum dedicated to debate and methodological development in qualitative research.
