CONTRIBUTIONS OF EHEALTH TECHNOLOGIES TO SMOKING TREATMENT
##plugins.themes.bootstrap3.article.main##
Abstract
Brazil is a global leader in the fight against smoking, boosting itself with the creation of the National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP). Even though it is a reference in this fight, smoking still causes thousands of deaths per year in the country, generating high annual costs for society. Studies have been carried out with the aim of improving the NTCP therapeutic protocol and, in this scenario, new possibilities for the contributions of digital health technologies (eHealth) are seen, as they meet the health needs of the population in an innovative and practice. Discuss the contributions of eHealth technologies to the treatment of smoking, associating them with the main therapeutic strategies of the NTCP protocol. Documentary analysis of NTCP manuals and an integrative review of articles on the contributions of eHealth technologies to smoking cessation were carried out. To analyze the data, both from the reviewed articles and the analyzed manuals, content analysis in the thematic modality was used as a strategy. The main strategies adopted in the NTCP protocols aimed at anti-smoking therapeutic groups were psychoeducation and stimulation of self-knowledge; which can be strengthened with the use of different technologies that, according to the literature, have been adopted as support tools in this process, as they expand access to content and improve self-knowledge. These technologies also promote social interaction, in addition to face-to-face groups, and increase adherence to treatment. Although the data highlights the contributions of technology to smoking cessation, other data point to health professionals looking carefully at the way these tools are being produced and tested, with the aim of increasing their effectiveness.
